Hi weary internet travelers🙂🌻🌦🦋🌿 My name is Chelsea. 💛Welcome to my corner. I wrote this song for my dad. Last month marked the five-year anniversary of his passing and I was just remembering the happy memories and impacts he has made on my mind. Additionally, our mini YouTube fam has grown to almost 500 friends now- Woohoo (this is utter insanity) so I also wanted to write something as a thank you... Thank you to all of you who have stuck around in my learning process, nonsense, and absence and continue to leave me your beautiful words and comments despite it all. They really brighten my day.

Okay, a bit about the song. I think if my dad could have taken us with him and spoken better Spanish he would have lived in a nomad abandoned hill country of Mexico. Anyhow, we lived in the high desert hills away from the city. We had heavy stone floors (always covered in dust from the outdoors)🦋. It was usually pretty dark and cool because of them (dad was a firm believer in the minimalist lifestyle and the beauty of natural light). His home smelled like paint and the dry desert flowers. He had this huge clay (Spaniard terra cotta style) chimney that was handcrafted and I remember the stars up in the desert hills were so vibrant and bright when it turned to night. I remember sitting at that fireplace with him, his girlfriend Julie, and my sister. We were so cozy, simple, and happy next to it.

If I dig deeper in the memory bank I remember that the first thing my dad taught me to cook was french toast. Basic bread dipped in eggs with a splash of milk and grilled golden brown to perfection. Drizzle some syrup & sprinkle some sugar and WAH LAH! We would have this meal on lazy weekend mornings with the sun pouring through every window. Powdered sugar would get EVERYWHERE but these were some of my happiest memories.

He also couldn’t be bothered to buy blinds and would use these huge painted (yes - he painted them Picasso) style sheets or these thick striped Mexican woven quilts on the windows to keep the heat out. “Mushuka'' is a made-up word my sister and I crafted to name a desert plant piece that we carried around like a prize when they fell from magnolia trees like cones-seed instruments. The home was falling apart but I loved it anyway- hence the “rickety and tired”. Dad was so interesting, mysterious, and uniquely creative. I have many more fond memories but won’t continue to bore you with them. Be well beautiful souls.

P.S. I encourage you to rewrite this song with your own memories and let me know when you do. Maybe we can collab. If I knew guitar better I’d tell you the chords- I just play what sounds decent to my ears. Tahtah for now.

~Lyrics~
🌻🌦💙
“Home is red clay terra cotta
Chimney full of fire
Kissing the night sky

Home is cheap french toast on paper
Soaked in buttery laughter
The powder sugar kind

Home frame of mind
Rickety and tired
But at least it’s mine
But at least it’s mine
This home is mine

Home is artisanal, handwoven
Mexican sewn blankets
On windows instead of blinds

Home is overalls and grass hills
“Mushukas” and anthills
Falling in cacti (yes, this actually happened)

Home frame of mind
Rickety and tired
But at least it’s mine
But at least it’s mine
This home is mine

Thing is home isn’t a place or
A space or face to live for
Home is what’s inside

Home’s a frame of mind.”
